Welcome to the website of the Softball Umpires of Maryland (SUM). SUM provides fastpitch Umpires in support of central Maryland girls travel tournaments. SUM's primary customer is the United States Specialty Sport Association (USSSA) tournament schedule. We also provide Umpires to the USSSA Nationals held in Maryland, Northern Virginia and World Series in Florida. REGISTER NOW TO BECOME AN UMPIRE In addition, many of the SUM Umpires work high-school fastpitch games in the States of Maryland and Delaware and have worked the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association Maryland State Championship tournament and Delaware semi-final and state championship games. A number of SUM Umpires officiate at the collegiate level in the Atlantic Region.   If you are interested in umpiring for SUM we would love to have you join our organization. Umpires working for SUM are trained in USSSA fastpitch softball rules as well as proper field mechanics. Training classes are in January and February. Fall softball runs from the middle of September to the end of October.
